”Let me follow in your footsteps”
(2006)
Choreography:Ingrid Tranum
The pivotal point of the choreography is a tragic and absurd figure, following
the footsteps of a woman, he does not know. Not only does he not know her, he
has never seen her! He has never reached to the end of the footsteps, so it
could be anyone he is hunting, but he refuses to admit that. He choses instead
to continue faithfully with the shoe in his hand and a fixed image in his mind.
As his absurd journey continues, his longing gets more intense and his
imagination and expectations gets wilder and more amazing. He meets another
woman, who has the same shoes….he can not accept that! If he accepts her
existence he also has to accept that there are more than one pair of shoes like
that….thus he could be following anyone…anything….He choses to deny the
existence of the other woman and hide her shoes away! Now he can continue in
peace….But the question that arises now is,- will he actually survive it, if he
really did get to the end of the footprints? Perhaps not. But anyway, is it not
also a lot easier (and it is here the secret is hidden) to worship a shoe rather
than a woman? The choreography is for three dancers: the man, the woman and the
other option. The music is by Sergei Rachmaninov, Andy Pape, Hans Werner Henze
and Per Nørgaard. ’In your footsteps’ had premiere in march 2006, at FestivALT
06 in Vigo in Spain.
