Saga Dance Company is a international contemporary dance company based in
Copenhagen. Saga stand for Story Animation & Gravity Adventures, and puts in short the focus of the company….The choreographer and artistic leader Ingrid Tranum, has with her works the aim of telling stories through the body, often highly abstracted, but still with the aim to take us through a story, however abstracted the story might be. The style is highly physical and aims to work on the edge of and challenge the limits of gravity. There is in the works always a strong emphasis on the music-dance relationship and dialogue, thus the company very often work with live music, this being one solo musician or a huge orchestra. It is also the aim of the company to work for the dance to expand its geographical habits and therefore reach wider audience, which is why the company often aims to tour and stage performance in areas also completely new to dance. As a natural link to this, the company also stages site-specific works exploring the dance in different settings and contexts challenging both the dancers and the audience to develop their perception of dance contexts. The company originally started out in 2004 as a quartet, Kuattro Dance Ensemble. However, times has changed and the ensemble grew out of its quartet-identity and in 2007 changed name to Saga Dance Company. |
